Music has always been part of Dione Taylor's life. Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Dione began playing the organ at the age of four and by ten had assumed the role of music director and organist at her church. Upon high school graduation Dione decided to attend the University of Regina, where she majored in Voice.
Having made the decision to pursue a career in jazz, Dione moved to Toronto in 1996 where she attended Humber College. During her time at Humber , Dione received the Thomas Kehoe Memorial Award for her outstanding vocal performance style.
In October of 2004 Dione Taylor's debut album "Open Your Eye" was nominated for an award by the Urban Music Association of Canada. Four months later "Open Your Eyes" was nominated for a JUNO in the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year category.
In June 2005, Dione was invited to perform at The White House in Washington D.C. to celebrate Black Music Month. In a performance with jazz legend Dr. Billy Taylor, Dione sang before an appreciative audience including the President and first Lady of the United States.
In addition to touring, Dione also works regularly in Toronto recording studios for clients such as CBC and DreamWorks. Dione is currently working on her next album which is scheduled to be released in 2006.
